REFLEXOLOGY

What is reflexology?
Reflexology is a complimentary therapy to enable the body to heal itself.
It uses the feet to treat the whole body. The principle behind it - massaging the feet, treating the whole body holistically (as a whole).
With its origins based in ancient civilizations, simply stated, reflexology is a therapeutic foot massage for health and wellbeing.
It is based on the principle that there are reflex points on the feet which correspond with each organ, gland, skeletal and muscular structure in the body. These points are known as reflex points; a reflex is when stimulation at one point brings about a response in another area.
The feet can be thought of as mirroring the body and so the organs and glands etc. can be mapped onto the feet.
The left foot mirrors the left side of the body and the right foot reflects the right side of the body.

How does it work?
Reflexology does free up the energy that flows through various zones of the body. Using finger and thumb pressure to stimulate the precise areas corresponding to different parts of the body, it unblocks any tension and stagnant energies to restore health and harmony to all the body's systems, and induces a state of absolute relaxation.
There are ten energy zones that run the length of the body from head to toe - five on each side of the body ending in each foot. All organs and part of the body lie along these zones. Working one reflex area on the foot will therefore revitalize and balance the entire zone and improve functioning of the organ.

Who can benefit from reflexology?
Women, men, the elderly, teenagers, children and babies. Reflexology does not discriminate. Anyone of any age can derive the benefit.
The benefits are endless. They include an improved immune system, better circulation, pain relief, stress relief, eliminate waste products from the body and encourages the body to heal.
Reflexology is preventive health care, revitalizes energy, stimulates creativity and productivity and many many more.
However, as in any therapy, there can be contradictions and a full medical history is always required.
'Contra' is a Latin word meaning 'against'. Indication refers to the treatment.
